POLE POSITION FOR DE BRABANDER (NL – MARANELLO-TM KZ1) AND NEGRO (I – DR-TM KZ2).

THE QUALIFYING SESSION OF GENK IS NOT CONSISTENT WITH PREDICTIONS. A kart race is always unpredictable, and the one organized by WSK Promotion this weekend in Genk (B) shows once more how steady the rule is. Qualifying took place on the 1,350 meters long circuit near the ex mine town of Genk, in Flanders. The town, today, is an important asset for Belgian tourism and it is the venue of the last event of the season for the WSK Euro Series. The fourth and last round will award the victories in KZ1, KZ2, KF and KF Junior, the four categories admitted in the race. Today's top event was the Superpole, reserved to the twelve fastest drivers of KF and KF Junior in the first qualifying session.

NICKLAS NIELSEN AIMS AT ACHIEVING A GREAT PERFORMANCE IN THE KF SUPERPOLE. Even though he is far from the leader of the championship, the French Dorian Boccolacci (Energy-TM-Vega), the Danish Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega) didn't give in and left the leader baffled when he achieved the Superpole: a result that can boost Nielsen's morale. Nielsen - currently third in the championship - stopped the clock at 52”483, just few hundredhs of a second faster than the Polish Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), ready to battle against Boccolacci from his second place in the standings. The leader only managed to set the third time which, anyway, allows him to occupy an excellent position: he can control his rivals and choose the fittest strategy.

NIKO KARI IN THE BATTLE OF THE KF JUNIOR. The KF Junior is the ideal breeding ground for new talents, as shown by the Finnish Niko Kari (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega): he's been in the central part of the long category standings until yesterday and today, in Genk, he managed to clinch the Superpole for the first time in a WSK event. His time - 53”890 - is just two hundredhs of a second faster than the one of the German David Beckmann (Zanardi-BMB-Vega), who is among the pursuers of the leader in KFJ. Third time for the Italian Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Parilla-Vega), who is second in the standings behind the leader, the British Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega). The latter has got a remarkable lead in the standings and he is just waiting for the weekend to finish to confirm his leadership. For the time being, the sixth time set in qualifying says that the Londoner will have to recover in the heats.

DE BRABANDER IS THE BEST IN KZ1. The Belgian Yannick De Brabander (Maranello-TM-Bridgestone)comes back to his home circuit to take part in a WSK race and it is clear that he is the man to beat. He achieved the pole setting the time at 51”933, ahead of the Italian Marco Ardigò (Tony Kart-Vortex-Bridgestone). Also in this category, the pursuers of the standings leader set good times: third is the English Ben Hanley (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone), right ahead of the Dutch Max Verstappen (CRG-TM-Bridgestone), the leader of the category since the beginning of the season.

IMPORTANT POLE FOR NEGRO IN KZ2. The Italian Riccardo Negro (DR-TM-Bridgestone) is gaining momentum in his attempt to recover the 33 points which separate him from the KZ2 leader, the Italian Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM-Bridgestone). There could not have been a better start for Negro: he clinched the pole with 51”836. Taking in consideration the sprint for the championship, good results also for the Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM-Bridgestone) and the Czech Jan Midrla (Birel-TM-Bridgestone), second and third right ahead of Zanchetta.
