IT’S RANKING TIME IN FOR WSK EURO SERIES. The first appointment of the WSK Euro Series has just finished and it is now the moment to analize the results, to try to understand the real performing qualities which have come to the surface in this first part of the 2013 season. All we saw, both on track and in the paddock of the La Conca International Circuit during last weekend, was the main topic of the WSK TV Magazine, broadcast by Rai Sport 2.
VERSTAPPEN'S TOP PERFORMANCE AT HIS DEBUT IN KZ1. In both the KZ1 Finals in La Conca, Max Verstappen (CRG-TM-Bridgestone) had no rivals. Against the Dutch driver's skills, at his first season in the gearbox category, the attempts made by his teammate, his fellow countryman Jorrit Pex, were useless. On Sunday it was the English Ben Hanley (ART GP-TM-Bridgestone) who tried to close the gap and achieved a performance as good as the Italian Paolo De Conto's (Birel-TM-Bridgestone). The ranking says it all: Verstappen leads with 85 points. The lead over Pex (40) is of 45 points. Third (30) is Hanley and De Conto is fourth, just few points behind, followed by the Czech Patrick Hajek (Praga-Parilla-Bridgestone).
BARNICOAT REGAINS LEADERSHIP IN KF. The events of the Final showed that the English Ben Barnicoat (ART GP-TM-Vega) had the right pace; the driver from Chesterfield, in the last laps, accomplished his recovery in the best way possible. He had started to close the gap on Saturday, after he was obliged to pull over in one of the heats. Barnicoat managed to remain focused even in the most frenzied moments of the Final, where he won. This victory allows him to lead the ranking with 70 points. The second place is occupied by the other British George Russell (Birel-TM-Vega), who had momentarily led the ranking after his win in the Pre-final and whose 45 points seem not enough if compared to the awesome recovery in the Final achieved by Karol Basz (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega). The Polish, on the podium of La Conca, gathered 31 points and he is now the third of the ranking. Another favourite is the French Dorian Boccolacci (Energy-TM-Vega) who, after missing a victory that was within his reach, is now fourth with 24 points, one more than the Danish Nicklas Nielsen (Kosmic-Vortex-Vega).
NEGRO STARTS AS THE KZ2 LEADER. KZ2 starts with a well-balanced challenge between the two Italians Riccardo Negro (DR-TM-Bridgestone) and Marco Zanchetta (Maranello-TM-Bridgestone), who won one Final each: the former won clearly on Saturday, the latter was able to counter-attack on Sunday and, finally, managed to win thanks to a well-balanced mixture of tactic and overtaking manoeuvres. Despite his win in Final 2, Zanchetta is not leading the ranking: he is second with 60 points. Negro, 65 points, is the leader. The Czech Jan Midrla (Birel-TM-Bridgestone) is lurking behind with 40 points. The Romanian Tomi Dragan (Lenzo-LKE-Bridgestone), 19 points, the Swedish Joel Johansson (Energy-TM-Bridgestone) and the Italian Loris Spinelli (both with 17 points) follow.
NORRIS, THE LITTLE KING OF THE KF JUNIOR. Despite his tiny size, Lando Norris (FA Kart-Vortex-Vega) showed all his great strength in La Conca, especially in the KF Junior, recovering many positions after a rather tricky start. Apart from these few moments, Norris always held the leadership since the Superpole which gave the first points of the season. 88 points, all the points he could get, this the height Norris is watching his rivals from. The Italian Alessio Lorandi (Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega) is second with 50 points. Very remarkable the performance of the Italian Alessio Pulcini, third with 47 points, while the Russian Vladimir Atoev (both on Tony Kart-Vortex-Vega), with 28 points and the German David Beckmann (Zanardi-BMB-Vega), 28, are a bit more behind.
MARTINEZ PULLS AWAY IN THE 60 MINI. In the two rounds of the WSK Euro series of the 60 Mini, the Spanish Eliseo Martinez (Hero-LKE-Le Cont) started well: he won, in La Conca, both in the Pre-final and in the Final. These two victories brought 85 points, which give him a wide lead over his rivals before the forthcoming appointment with the second and last round on 18th April in Sarno. The Malaysian Muizzuddin Abdul Gafar (Hero-LKE-Le Cont) is second with 40 points, followed by the Indian Kush Maini (Tony Kart-LKE-Le Cont). Good performances for the two Italian drivers Leonardo Marseglia (Top Kart-Parilla-Le Cont) and Rocco Negro (Top Kart-Comer-Le Cont), with 25 and 22 points.
